First edition of the earliest and most important collaborative product of the Frankfurter Institut für Sozialforschung. It opens with long introductory essays by the three main figures associated with the Frankfurt School: Max Horkheimer, ‘Allgemeiner Teil’, Erich Fromm, ‘Sozialpsychologischer Teil’, and, Herbert Marcuse, ‘Ideengeschichtlicher Teil’. Then follow presentations by various authors of the research conducted by the Insitut on how family life affects wider attitudes towards authority, and vice versa (pp. 229-857). Finally there are abstracts of the contributions in English and in French. Large 8vo, xv, 947, [3] pp, publisher’s olive-green cloth with spine and front cover lettered in gilt, lightly rubbed, a very clean and fresh copy.
